Transitioning Hyena Cart to indieCart

I’m sending an email out with this same information, but figured I’d post it here as well:

As I mentioned in this blog post last March, we will be merging Hyena Cart with its sister site, indieCart. This is to give you more information about how this transition will work and what you need to do as we make the switch:

  1. First off, you shouldn’t need to do much of anything! Your store has already been transferred to indieCart, with a similar url to your Hyena Cart store. So if your current url is https://hyenacart.com/YourStore, your new store can be found at https://indiecart.com/YourStore . Any product additions or edits you make on your Hyena Cart store will also be reflected in your indieCart store (although images may take overnight to transfer.) Note that I haven only transferred stores that have been active in the last two years. If you have an older store you’d like to transfer, please contact me via the helpdesk and I’ll get you transferred.
  2. All of your products, order history, and store design have been transferred over.
  3. Shopper accounts and shopper histories have also been transferred over.
  4. As you know, there are separate login pages and accounts for shoppers and sellers on Hyena Cart. However, on indieCart, your shopper and seller accounts are unified, and the login page is the same as well. Your seller account has been transferred to indieCart, and you can login from here: https://indiecart.com/login.php . Use the email address associated with your Hyena Cart selling account. The password should work as well, but if not, you can reset the password using the Forgotten Password link. Once logged in, you can manage your store via the drop-down menu under the greeting message (the “Manage Store” menu option.)
  5. We will be soft transitioning through January. This means you can start sending shoppers to your indieCart store anytime.
  6. As part of the transition, the underlying operating system for indieCart has been upgraded. While I\’ve tried to find all of the bugs associated with this upgrade, there may still be a few here and there, so please let me know if things aren’t working the way you expect.
  7. Assuming the soft transition goes smoothly, we’ll start automatically redirecting traffic from Hyena Cart to indieCart in February. Again, you won’t need to do anything special. Once the redirection starts, any shopper accessing hyenacart.com will be automatically redirected to the same page on indiecart.com (whether it’s your store page, or a specific listing page, they will be taken to the correct page on indiecart.)

Please let me know if you have any questions. You can contact me via the helpdesk: https://indiecart.com/helpdesk/ or post here!

Finally, if you have a store that hasn’t been transferred and you’d like it to be, please let me know!

Advanced notice – Hyena Cart and indieCart will be merging

Hi everyone,

Timing is still TBD, but I have decided to merge Hyena Cart and its sister site, indieCart within this calendar year. Of the two domains, I have decided that indieCart will be the site moving forward, meaning we will be sunsetting HyenaCart.com. Your store will be automatically transferred to indieCart.com, all the functionality of your current store will remain, and all traffic will be automatically redirected. I’ll do my best ensure that there is no disruption on your end.

One of the main reasons for this is the name Hyena Cart itself. While it was meaningful back in the heyday of cloth diapering mania (hard to believe that was 15+ years ago!), it is a somewhat off-putting name to those unfamiliar with the background.

I will keep you updated as I work through the transition. It will likely take a few months, if not longer, before we make the switch.

Thanks for continuing to host your store on Hyena Cart. And I hope to welcome you to indieCart soon. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me via the helpdesk or reply directly to this blog post.

Thank you!

Outdated security certificate warning

Hi all,

Hope you had a wonderful holiday!

I apologize that the site is showing an outdated security certificate warning. In fact, the certificate is not out of date. It seems that our security service, Sucuri, has cached an older certificate and that is what is causing the issue. Unfortunately, I’m having trouble getting a hold of them (offices seemed to be closed on Sunday morning), but as soon as I’m able to contact a support person, we should be able to get this straightened out. Please rest assured that this is not an attack or other security issue. It is just a warning that browsers send when they see something unexpected with the security certificate.

Thank you for your patience as we get this sorted out!

3:00 pm update – the Sucuri people finally showed up to work and renewed the certificate. The site should be working correctly now. I’m very sorry for the inconvenience and will work with them to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

Moving Hyena Cart to https

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to send a quick update letting you know we’ll be transitioning Hyena Cart to https throughout the course of the day. This is to further increase security as well as increasing Hyena Cart’s search engine ranking.

Please let me know if you notice any broken functionality on the site. I believe most things should be working now, but I may have missed a few edits here and there. If you notice anything, please contact me via the helpdesk.

Also, I want to ensure I’m not missing any active vendors with these blog posts, so the notifications will go out to blog subscribers, as usual, but also recently active sellers. I apologize if you get duplicate emails. If this is the case, feel free to unsubscribe from the blog list as you should get emails via your vendor account from here on in.

Thanks!

Updated security at Hyena Cart

Hi all,

As an added security precaution, I have hired a new third-party security service for Hyena Cart. In order to make full use of the service, we’ve had to make some DNS modifications and will also need to experiment with security settings. At the moment, I know the SSL certificate still needs to be updated, which will cause your browsers to give errors when accessing https portions of the site (i.e., login screens.) This should be fixed very soon. I apologize for the inconvenience!

If you notice any other issues with accessing pages or site functionality, please let me know via the helpdesk. Hopefully we’ll get all the wrinkles worked out in the next few hours.

Thanks,

Karen

New discount codes, just in time for Black Friday and Cyber Monday :)

Hi everyone!

Just wanted to let you all know I’ve added two new types of discount codes just in time for Black Friday and Cyber Monday 🙂 They are:

  • Percent off discount + Free shipping: previous to this, you could offer one or the other, but now you can offer both at the same time for your best customers!
  • BOGO with percent off: This code gives you the option of offering a BOGO discount and you can define the percentage off the BOGO item (set to 100% for a true BOGO.)

Please let me know if you have any trouble with the new codes. Again, best way to get in touch is via the helpdesk.

Thanks everyone, and happy holidays!

Gauging interest in running Hyena Cart store on your own website

Hi everyone!

I’ve been toying around with the idea of making the Hyena Cart software available to run on sellers’ individual websites. So picture a very similar store to your Hyena Cart store, with similar functionality (scheduled stockings, creating multiple listings simultaneously, options to manage high-traffic stockings like lotteries, auctions, Hold listings, etc.) but on your own .com.

If this sounds interesting to you, please drop me a line from the support page: http://hyenacart.com/helpdesk/ and we can work through what this might look like.

Thanks everyone!

Operating system upgrade on site

Happy Sunday, everyone!

There was an upgrade on the site operating system last night that is causing some issues in functionality on the site. We’ll be working today to get these fixed up. Please be patient until later this afternoon and know that we’ll have everything functional as soon as possible.

Thanks!

HC Congo and Multi-store users – images

Hi everyone,

There was an issue with the new image uploader for Congos and multi-users stores that is causing images to be deleted when the site’s image clean-up script is run. If this has affected you, please contact me at the helpdesk so I can compensate you for your time.

Even if your images are still fine, please do this check to ensure that they don’t get deleted inadvertently:

  • Check that your image id number matches their product id.
  • The way to do that is to look at the number of the image path on the edit listing page, for example,
  •            ../prod_images17/vid6704_id68564_0.jpg

that number after id, 68564, should be the same number that shows in your browser
          bar, i.e.,

          http://hyenacart.com/Vendor_files/stockpage.php?id=68564&vid=6704

         (the number after “id=”.)

  • If the numbers are the same, you are all set. If they aren’t, please re-upload your images.

Again, if this has affected your shop, please contact me at the helpdesk so I can compensate you for the inconvenience.

Moving forward, this should not be an issue and all new listings should be fine.
