Amber beads that are shaped in any way (the picture below for example) is amber that has been modified from its original raw state. While it is not polished to a full shine, it is no longer truly "raw."
The texture of Baltic amber beads that have been modified from the original raw state, but have not been polished to a full shine, may vary. Sometimes the beads have a visible texture to them, like grains of fine sand, and sometimes there is little-to-no visible texture. Beads with less texture tend to be a little more reflective of light and may have a bit of a dull shine to them. All unpolished beads eventually take on this dull shine due to contact with the natural oils of the skin.
