Google feeds and promotional listings

Hi all,

I need to ask everyone a favor — I recently received an email from the google products team that our feeds have been removed. The issue is that people are including shipping info (e.g, Free shipping) in their listing titles OR creating listings that describe store policies and announcements. The favor is, please remove all references to shipping price from your item titles, and please move all policies and announcements to the info pages section (rather than making them listings). I am also going to create some filters for what gets included in the google product feeds to remove listings with certain words in their titles (e.g., shipping, policies, etc.) Thanks for your help with this!

  1. I think one of the reasons we always make them listings is because of lack of understanding of the “info pages”. I just went into my store and messed around with it and filled in an info page. Then I went back and looked at my store and I have no idea where it is or how to find it. I know the customers aren’t going to search for info pages they don’t know exist. 😕

  2. Yes, the only way to make sure people know about a free shipping deal is to put it on the calendar, and the only way to put it on the calendar is to have it as a listing or in the title of the listing 🙁 If you can’t let people know about, it won’t be a very successful promotion. Not everyone goes to the forums, but most do check the calendar. And the featured ads are only pictures and will not say anything about sales.

  3. I have both informational listings as well as using the info pages. I think in general, the informational listings get viewed more than the info pages. The info pages are a great tool, but for something that I want viewed more frequently, having an informational listing is much better.

I’m also not sure how to have a FFS item known to be FFS w/o having it in the title.

  4. I agree with Tami completely. I have both an info page and a listing with information in it because it’s too hard for the typical consumer to find the “info” pages.
