Vendor login info, customer first names, random spots :)

Well, I did quite a bit of coding today, but as usual, my to-do list
doesn’t look any shorter. But here’s the update:

1) I wrote a page that will email your vendor login info to you. You
can get to it from the vendor login page (which, don’t forget, is
listed on the main HC site under “For WAHMs”). There are two different
links, depending on whether you have your own store, or are part of a
congo:

http://hyenacart.com/Vendor_files/vendor_page.php

Just click the link “Forgotten Your login info?” or “Forgotten your
congo login info?” and follow the instructions. Let me know if you
have any problems.

2) Customer first names are now included on your order confirmation
emails and listed in your order history detailed view. This should
make it less awkward to write those emails rather than just saying,
“Hey you — thanks for ordering” 😉

3) I added a new way to browse HC items, the random spots page:
http://hyenacart.com/hc_spots_rand.php . You’ll also see a few random
items on the calendar page to tempt the hyenas 🙂

Oh, and about choices…

I know using choices is one of the most confusing things about HC so I
want to write a tutorial on how to use them for various situations. If
you have a type of listing you’d like to do, but haven’t figured out
how to get the choices to work the way you want, drop me an e-mail and
I’ll be sure to include that situation in my tutorial.

Image upload now includes gallery :)

Just wanted to let you know that those of you who are using the option
of loading images directly to the HC server now have a gallery you can
use 🙂 You’ll see the “Edit gallery” link at the bottom of your vendor
pages, and you can upload gallery images directly to the server too.
The top of the page shows you the code you can use to link to your
gallery from your main store page. Let me know if you have any
problems using your gallery 🙂

More new categories…

Just a quick note to tell you I added some more categories to the
product types page: Slings & Carriers, Yarn & Fabric, and Web
Services.

As a refresher, there is a drop-down menu on your Profile Page (under
Optional Customizations) called “Product type.” Choose one of those
categories and you will be automatically listed on the List all HC
Stores by Product page.

Let me know if you’d like to add any other categories 🙂

Also — you may not all have noticed — you can now get to the vendor
login page from the main site. It’s in the drop-down menu under “For
WAHMs.”

Finally, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for hosting your
store on Hyena Cart. We now have more than 250 active stores, 4000
registered users, over $200,000 worth of goods listed and over
$200,000 in completed sales (not counting the extra money that is
usually added to custom orders). I think this is amazing! It’s your
unique, handcrafted items that bring the traffic to HC and I hope we
can continue to pull new customers in as sellers from different
categories join us.

Go on, spot some items :)

It’s time to go around and spot some items! Each product listing now
has a “Spot this item!” link at the bottom. To read more about it,
check this page out:

http://hyenacart.com/hc_spots_exp.php

So go spot some items, why don’t you 😉

In other news, I’m still compiling the keyword list, but if you all go
ahead and start using these standard terms, it will be easier for
customers to find your products. Once we get a number of us using them
in our listings, I’ll post the list on the search page so customers
can use them too. What you may want to
do is have a little section at the bottom of your listing for keywords
and just list some there. For example “size2T soft-shoes blue”. I
haven’t added your suggestions yet, but I’ll get to that soon. Here’s
the list so far: http://hyenacart.com/search_terms.php

Added some new categories…

I added three new categories to the product categories: traning pants,
shoes, and jewelry. I took the liberty of changing the category of a
few of your stores so I could test the code. Sorry if I put you in the
wrong one!

As a refresher, there is a drop-down menu on your Profile Page (under
Optional Customizations) called “Product type.” Choose one of those
categories and you will be automatically listed on the List all HC
Stores by Product page.

Let me know if you’d like to add any other categories 🙂

Notice anything weird lately?

I’ve had a few bug reports trickling in and was wondering if there’s
more going on that was intermittent and you weren’t sure if it was you
or HC. Although there’s plenty of room on the database, I’m wondering
if it’s starting to act screwy or something. So please, if there’s
anything you’ve noticed lately that seems odd or unusual, drop me a
line and I’ll see if there’s a bigger problem going on.

Daily, weekly, and monthly calendar views

I’ve just added a weekly view (the new default), and a daily view, in
addition to the monthly stocking calendar view we’ve always had.
Hopefully, this makes the calendar less intimidating and more
manageable for our customers. Any items you stock will show up
immediately in the weekly and daily listings, but will still have up
to an hour delay on the monthly calendar. I’ve put some thought into a
‘fluff in waiting’ link, but it would be an insanely long page to list
everything currently in-stock in hyena cart stores. The best bet is
still to use the search feature with appropriate keywords. I’m hoping
this addresses some of the concerns that were voiced in this thread at
mothering

Let me know if you have other ideas for how to make HC more user-friendly 🙂

The HC forums :)

I had a hyena e-mail me today, asking if I could provide a forum for
them to show off their fluff, discuss cloth diapering and generally
express their hyena-ness.

If you’d like to visit, it’s here:

http://forum.hyenacart.com/

There’s a spam forum and a place to post questions about HC as well.
Of course, you’re welcome to email me as well. I will probably still
check my email more often than the forum.

Thanks for taking a look 🙂
