Storetop menus will roll out in a week — please check your designs!

Phew! I’ve done a lot of debugging on the storetop menus and they are just about ready to be rolled out. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, please check out this post.

Please please check your store designs with the new menu. If you have design issues, and would like me to fix them, please post a link to your store in the comments to this post, a description of the issue, and give me permission to tweak your design to fix the issue.

If you’re a do-it-your-selfer, you can try the following fixes for the most common problems:

  1. Mysterious white bar at the top of your store (below the storetop menu). This is caused by setting a margin at the top of the page. The margin needs to be zero’ed out. For example:

    body { margin: 37px 0px 10px 0px; }

    needs to be changed to this:

    body { margin: 0px 0px 10px 0px; }

  2. The storetop menu is too far to the right. Some of the links don’t show on the page. This is caused by a

    body{text-align:center}

    style definition. If this is removed, the issue will go away

  3. You use white text for your links, so the storetop menu, being white on white, is not very useful. You can add this style definition to your style sheet:

    .navhc a, .navhc a:hover {color:#000000;}

    where you can change the color to whatever you desire, and the link text will then show up correctly.

  4. Your store table is wider than your design: check your Store Settings >> Profile page, and ensure that the “width of storetable” value is not too large.

Remember, if you would prefer not to make these changes, please comment to this blog post with permission for me to make the changes for you. The menus will roll out in a week, so again, please check your store designs!

One last note: many of you have commented that the menus seem too small and inconspicuous. My hope is that, since they stay at the top of the browser window no matter how far down the user scrolls, that they will be noticeable because of that.

Thanks everyone!

  1. I’m having a bit of an issue…a weird one. When I turn it on, it messes up the formatting of my category and item titles. I captured what I mean, so you can see the difference, and posted the link in the “Website”. It’s putting an extra line above the titles? Please fix!

  2. I really do like the new look,but now just the top of my shop looks sort of off to me. The border is off (the green is bigger just at top) & my logo seems to have a big gap now..if that makes any sense…I give you permission to tweak my shop.Thanks so much.

  3. With the new format, I have a thick green border bar under my store name running horizontally at the top of the pages…that thick green line is not supposed to be there…the very thin purple line is supposed to be there. That’s the only glitch I can see.

  4. Ok – this seems a little weird, but it’s throwing off the formatting on the bottom of my page for some reason – it looks fine under the “old” way, but when I activate the store top menu it shifts my footer menu. Can you fix it purty please?

  5. I love the new storetop menus! Can one of the top fields – in addition to Hyena Cart – be View Cart. I know the shopping cart is still in the page but a lot of other online stores have a view cart link at the top with the other links.

  6. I’m noticing a couple issues on mine as well. With the storetop menu, the store table is now wider than the design. I also noticed the titles on all my info pages went down to a tiny text size. When I viewed without the menu, everything appears normal.

  7. The only thing i notice with mine is that the links on the left side are smaller text than they use to be, and a little harder to read. If you could help it would be great! I give permission. Thanks!

  8. Okie dokie – thanks for fixing the issues at the bottom of the page 🙂

    But now, when storetop menus are not activated, the whole formatting of the page is off . . .

    And the storetop menu starts in them middle of the page, so all you see are the “Welcome . . . l” and “Hyena Cart” dropdowns – the rest are all off to the side off the screen (at least on my computer)

    Anything I need to do with my store’s css itself? I host my css on my main website . . .
