From the first, I loved getting dirty. Born and raised in Rochester, NY, I grew up in a community full of art-lovers and potters. I remember rolling and stamping clay in my parent's friends studio when I was tiny. Nothing made me happier than rooting around in the garden for worms or trying experimental cookie recipes. As I grew up, I dabbled in every craft - from basketry to leatherwork. I attended Swarthmore College and got my first taste of wheel-throwing while studying abroad in Botswana, Southern Africa. A village potter took me in for a brief apprenticeship and I rediscovered a love of dirt. I returned to the states hungry for more. I now work part time at the Philadelphia Clay Studio as a work-exchange Assistant Studio Technician. I make pottery in between my full-time job as a community journalist in the greater Philadelphia area. I love to make pottery that becomes someone's special piece - you know, the mug you simply can't drink your favorite tea without, or the bowl you use for hot soup on a cold day. I think beautiful ceramics can enrich our lives when we make it part of our every-day rituals.
