My name is Cathy Schneider, and I am a stay-at-home-mom to 3 beautiful boys ages 11, 7 and almost 1. I have been sewing for about 30 years, and started sewing diapers for my most recent baby, along with sewing clothing for my kids. I have used cloth diapers for all three, and it’s been fun this time around with all the great cloth diapering products that have been introduced in the last 10 years.
When I decided to use cloth diapers again, with my 3rd child, I looked on the internet to see what was new in the cloth diaper world. There was so much to choose from and I ended up ordering a popular pocket diaper. When I got it in the mail, I was sad to realize that there were no natural fabrics in the diaper. I wondered why bother with cloth if I’m just going to have polyester next to his bottom? (Okay, so there is more to it than that!) That’s when I decided to sew fitted diapers.
In searching for the perfect diaper and cover combination I have found the Crescent Moon Yoga Pants to be really great to use over a fitted diaper instead of a cover having the bulk of a cover under pants. My first choice is wool interlock or jersey pants or covers. I love wool, but it isn’t always practical with an active child like mine who wants to play in the dirt. The fleece works great, especially around the house and on more casual days. I like to have several pairs on hand so that I can change them once or twice a day. They are so practical and cute that I don’t even mind the polyester!
